Swift Water Rescue Specialist

Anyone who is responsible for the response and rescue of others in the moving water environment.
Course Objectives: Students learn rescue principles and techniques needed to operate in the moving water environment. Students leave the courses with the skills to recognize hazards, and function as part of a rescue team.

Water Dynamics
Responder Safety & Self Rescue
Knots & Hitches Basic and Advanced Rescue Systems & Scenarios

Level I - Water Rescue Awareness This half-day classroom course highlights hazards associated with moving water. Level I meets NFPA standards.

Level II - Water Rescue Operations This hands on 2-day course covers shore and boat based rescue techniques. Various throw, reach and tow techniques are reviewed. Water vehicle operation is also covered. Level II meets NFPA standards.

Level III - Swift Water Rescue Responder A must for rescuers on the frontline. Course covers river and flood dynamics, the Incident Command System, high angle rope work, and challenging scenarios. It is 4-days long and can be delivered in two shorter components. Level III meets NFPA standards. No pre-requisite required.

Course Lengths:
Level I - Awareness- Half Day (4 hrs).
Level II- Operations- 2 Days (16 hrs).
Level III- Responder 5 Days (40 hrs) can be delivered in 2 components of 2 and 3 days. A refresher course is recommended every 2 years.
